Trip to Ground Zero, June 17, 2022

On June 17, 2022 Hooks for Heroes CT is planning  a visit for Active military and veterans to the 911 Museum and the WTC Observation Deck. Please watch this site for updates.

Last year, 2021, veterans were from Ft. Belvoir, VA, Walter Reed Medical Center, MD, as well as from various other states. They arrived in Stamford on Thursday for dinner and hotel rooms which were provided by generous donors. Three vans departed early the next morning for NYC and arrived at the 16 acres of the WTC buildings, with 8 acres devoted to the 911 memorial.

They were greeted by a police car escort to the 911 Museum. We were fortunate to have one generous donor pay for most of the day’s expenses. The museum was having the 20th anniversary of the horrific terrorist attack on the WTC towers and the group was quickly immersed in the many videos, pictorials, and memorabilia, donated by the victims’ families and organizations.

The group then departed from the 911 Museum and, with a police car escort, and the three vans arrived at the entrance to the WTC Observation Deck.  It was quite spectacular to see the Statue of Liberty, New York Harbor, with all the ships anchored, and the Brooklyn Bridge. The group then departed for Stamford for a great dinner and preparation for the Saturday fishing tournament.
